Stuart Rose has over 20 years of retail and direct marketing experience in a variety of consumer product categories. Stuart joined Tully and Holland in November 2005 to augment the firm’s established expertise providing merger and acquisition and corporate advisory services to the retail and direct marketing industries.

From 1997 through 2002 Stuart was a senior executive with Specialty Catalog Corporation, a $60 million direct marketer of beauty products and continuing education. As General Manager of SC Publishing, the continuing education division, Stuart affected a rapid and significant turnaround bringing the division from consistent losses to 20% pretax profitability with key pricing, product, circulation, creative and structural cost changes. Stuart was named President of the division and Vice President of Operations for the parent company in 1999. As he continued to lead SC Publishing, including doubling the size of the division through an acquisition of a strategic competitor, Stuart’s leadership of Specialty Catalog’s fulfillment operation produced key call center and warehouse performance enhancements while managing 1.5 million calls and 1 million shipments per year. Those changes resulted in annual cost savings of $3 million.

In 2003, Stuart became Legal Sea Foods’ Vice President of Business Development. In this role he led the $100+ million restaurant chain’s catalog division to a 30% comparative sales turnaround, expanded the catalog’s product breadth, revamped its creative, and increased its marketing and visibility. Stuart also began the development process to increase the distribution of Legal Sea Foods’ world renowned clam chowder. In 2004 and 2005 Stuart led Oriac Design, a direct marketer of home furnishings funded by leading European retailers, as its President and CEO. Despite a long history of significant losses Stuart’s financial and marketing expertise allowed the company to pursue several strategic options.

Stuart began his executive career in 1983 with Edison Brothers Stores, a multi-divisional shoe and apparel specialty store retailer. Stuart’s career at Edison Brothers was focused on planning, control, financial analysis and administration. He worked for four different divisions during his tenure, including an assignment as General Manager of a national chain of high fashion shoe stores. In each of his assignments the division he controlled or administered, ranging from $15 million to $150 million in sales, continually achieved record profits.

Stuart holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in Economics and Philosophy from Brandeis University and a MBA from Harvard University. Stuart is an adjunct instructor at Bentley College where he teaches Direct Marketing and other marketing courses.
